The mace is where they take a pc of the appendix or intesines and create inner tubes 1 for the bowels and 1 for the bladder. it is a very intense operations. My son has a nuerogenic bladder/bowels and although we had him on a bowel program with enmeez ( supppositires) he still was not emptying his bowels. His bladder was outside of his body leaking into a pull up. teh operation put his bladder back in his body and reconstruct the bowels so that he won't hav eaccidents. At night we use a iv bag and insert a tube into his belly button and flush saline through his bowels toflush the poop out. we have to cath him in a small hole right above his pelvis every 3-4 hours for his bladder. I see how this surgey helps the person become more independent ..but at the same time it is alot of work. I don't much about the Xiao procedure.. hope this helps

| I had the MACE down 6 years ago as an adult and before that I was having accidents almost every day and since then I have not had a single one, It was the best decision I ever made. I have had to have a few revisions that were outpatient last year. I also had some issues lately with the stoma closing since mine was in the belly button so I had to go in and have a permanent stint put in with a little cover on the outside that opens and closes but that was no biggie. If you have any other questions about the procedure let me know. I did not have to have the bladder surgery so I just know about the MACE and that prep and recovery. As an adult it has changed my life completely I don't have to worry about going out with friends or family. |
