Hello my name is LaTrisia and I'm the daughter of Val Gardner I am 19 years old and i have spinal bifida (myelomeningocele). My severity isn't like most of this disability. I don't have a wheelchair, wear braces when needed (feel like it), and I drive without any special devices. When you 1st meet me you will not know that I even have Spinal Biffed. I must say that I am very blessed. I have had a bladder augmentation, labia reduction, vaginal sling, appendix removal, spinal closure, but everything has been going on since birth. By the way I have been self-cathing since I was 7 yrs old I feel like it is very important that everybody should have their own INDEPENDENCE. Any questions that you may want to know my mama will be more than happy to answer. Thank you and God Bless!!!

Hi LaTrisia,
My daughter is 16 years old and one of her biggest concerns is managing her bowel habits.  She is always so afraid of having an accident when she is among her peers.  Do you have any advise to offer?  I hope this is not too personal.  Thanks in advance.

HI Walkm

My only advise for you and your daughter is to learn what makes you go more often then normal like when i was younger if i laughed to much i would lose control of my bowels running, jumping, playing to hard can cause you to lose control but you will always smell yourself before others will so just right after you play and have fun go check yourself and always bring extra stuff it helps to keep a back pack or purse at all times.
