I wrote a message some where else on her lol.I just want all of you to know that no matter what type of SB you or your child has never give up.At times you will just want to give up cause you don't think you can stand to see your little baby go thru one more surgery,(Don't) Talk to him or her tell them how much you Love them how much you want to take them home, touch them even if its just a finger just let them know you are there with them. They will know.It won't be easy but God will help you thru the roughest part.My son was born 46 yrs ago and then they didn't know hardly anything about SB.He has had 24surgeries,14 broken legs, and his shunt revised one time.He no longer needs the shunt cause the hydrocephlus has arrested its self.He wears a bag for his kidneys and is on a bowel training program, where he uses a suppository called magic bullet every Tues.and Thurs. works great.
My heart goes out to all you young mothers cause I know what its like to sit in a hospital waiting for news.I never got to see my baby till he was 5 days old cause they only gave him 1 in a million chances to live, never held him till he was 3 months.Today he is 46 yrs old and such a fine young man.My Hero,My Life,My Love.

It makes me happy when I hear of people over 40 with Spina Bifida.  You gave good advice.  I am going to be 42 in 2 weeks.  The last year has been tough, but I am strong willed and will get through it.  I have bladder and bowel problems too.  For the past at least 10 years my biggest problem has been kidney infections.  Hopefully those will lessen now because my doctors finally got me more equipment.  Take Care.  I'm glad your son is doing well.

Hello Everyone!
I am also an "over 40" person LIVING with spina bifida. I was first alerted to Sophie's story through my local SBAA Chapter, then I saw the story again on ET this past weekend. I emailed the Foundation directly, before I became aware of the Message Board in this site. So glad we are all here....period, but also glad to be here to help Sophie and anyone else living with SB.

Talk to you all soon!
Mary
